Moroccan Saffron Empowers Women

Women are key players in the saffron value chain in Morocco.

In Taliouine, in the south of Morocco, some 3,000 families grow saffron, an important source of revenue for most of them. Khadija, a saffron producer, is one of the few women to head a cooperative. Yet, many workers in the value chain are women. Promoting the participation of women in the cooperatives and their involvement in the decision-making bodies is a way to strengthen their social and economic situation.
